How Restoring the Microbiome Can Transform Your Cat's Health

Do you have a kitty struggling with chronic digestive issues? Or allergies?

If so, you might want to check out the latest interview on the channel. I'm joined by Melissa Natanson from Legacy Biome to discuss the science and application of Fecal Microbiota Transplants (FMT) for cats.

We dive deep into how this therapy works to restore a healthy gut microbiome and exactly what it means for felines navigating severe GI disorders. Melissa is a Certified Holistic Pet Health Coach, and as a proud mom to two 17-year-old cats herself, her philosophy centers on healing from the inside out.

As Charlie is getting older and is nearly seventeen, supporting his gut health and whole-body vitality is a top priority, making this a fascinating conversation for any senior cat parent looking to explore holistic options.

You can watch the full interview and learn more about healing your cat's digestion here.

4. Ground

I bought this grounding mat for myself. But Charlie liked it so much that he started using it when I wanted to. So I ordered another. Charlie lays on it for about 3 hours a day. Goes upstairs in the early evening to lay on it. Comes down for dinner, then back up to lay on it more. Inside kitties don’t get the benefits of the Earth’s energy outside. So this could be great for indoor kitties. Although I can’t feel much when I’m on it, I know it works or he wouldn’t seek it out.

What is a Grounding Mat?

A grounding mat (also known as an earthing mat) is a device designed to connect your body to the Earth's natural electrical charge while you are indoors. The concept is based on "earthing," which is the practice of making direct skin contact with the surface of the Earth, such as walking barefoot on grass, dirt, or sand.

Because modern lifestyles often disconnect us from this direct physical contact—thanks to rubber-soled shoes, elevated beds, and living indoors—grounding mats aim to replicate that connection. They are typically made of conductive materials, such as polyurethane infused with carbon or silver threads, and connect to the grounding port of a standard electrical outlet via a cord. When your bare skin touches the mat, the Earth's electrons are theorized to transfer into your body.

Potential Benefits

Proponents of earthing claim that absorbing the Earth's electrons can neutralize free radicals and stabilize the body's internal electrical environment. While individual experiences vary, commonly reported benefits include:

  • Improved Sleep: Many users report falling asleep faster and experiencing deeper, more restful sleep. This is often attributed to the normalization of the daily rhythm of cortisol, the body's primary stress hormone.
  • Reduced Inflammation: Grounding is theorized to reduce chronic inflammation by neutralizing free radicals, which are positively charged molecules that can damage cells.
  • Pain Relief: Some individuals experience a reduction in chronic pain, joint stiffness, and muscle soreness after consistently using grounding mats.
  • Lowered Stress and Anxiety: The practice may help shift the autonomic nervous system from a sympathetic (fight-or-flight) state to a more balanced parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) state, promoting overall relaxation.
  • Improved Circulation: There is some evidence suggesting that grounding can improve blood flow and reduce blood viscosity (thickness), which supports cardiovascular health.

Grab a grounding mat for you and your kitty.

Philomena - Ragdoll of the Week

"We became interested in Ragdolls when we saw them on Animal Planet’s episode of Too Cute and even further after some research online. After we adopted our first Ragdoll, Claus, when he was 5 months old, it only took about 6 months till we decided to get another one! Just like that our household became a 2 Ragdoll home."

He’s the son of Bumblebee (CottonBlues The Ultimate Buzz) and Ben E (RockinBlues Save The Last Dance). The best part? His dad’s grandfather is Soulmates Tyler’s Toys—who happens to be Charlie’s dad! Hi Reader, Guess what's back?! Do you know about the Chewy deal? I love these deals and take advantage of them whenever they're available. They used to be monthly, but now they are not as frequent. Free $30 eGift Card with $100 purchase with code SUMMER. And what's cool is that you can do the deal 3x every time - they vary, though, when it's available. Unfortunately, they don't let you order $300 and get $90 in gift cards; you have to place three separate orders, each slightly over $100. I do...

Giving my Ragdoll cat Real Mushrooms 5 Defenders

Hi Reader, I hope you and your kitty are doing well! Last Tuesday was pretty scary for Charlie and me. We were hanging out in the backyard when a massive limb suddenly snapped off our big tree. Unfortunately, it broke right where a honeybee nest was hidden, and the bees instantly swarmed and came after me. Panic set in as I ran frantically around the yard, terrified that Charlie had been crushed under the branch. Thankfully, he had the good sense to sprint far away from the danger! But when...
