Hi Reader,

The newsletter is a little late this week on purpose, as today, August 8th, is International Cat Day! And it is also my cat Rags' birthday. Rags is the inspiration behind this entire website.

Rags, born on 8/8/89, was one of the greatest loves of my life. His face is the one you often see in our profile images, and his memory is a core part of what I do here. My love for him not only inspired the creation of this website but also influenced some of its unique details, such as the publication of every blog post at 8:08 a.m. Kansas City time. Though he was born in California, his life was here in Kansas City, and so we honor him here.

I'm incredibly grateful for the 19.5 years we had together. His love helped create what has become my livelihood and one of my great joys.

Thank you all for being here to celebrate Rags and all the beautiful kitties in our lives.

​Ragdoll Cats Caymus and Rags Wanting to Go Inside​

I have very few videos of Rags. He was born in 1989, so we didn't have access to filming like we do now. My mom, however, did film A LOT of our childhood, so I know he is in them. I have asked for those VHSes to be digitized for nearly every birthday and Christmas, but it hasn't happened YET. So, Mom, if you are reading this, there are 4 months until Christmas!!

This short video shows Rags with my parents, Caymus, both of whom are now passed away. Caymus was always very respectful of my Rags, so he was a joy to bring over. Rags was our family's cat, but in his last three years of life, I convinced my mom to let me have him alone. And Rags did live with my parents when they got Caymus and Murphy, so they knew each other well. He was 15 years old when my parents got Caymus and Murphy. I loved having them together and would welcome them both, if they choose to return to me in this life.

This is one of my favorite cat scratchers. Charlie, Caymus, Murphy, and Trigg have all loved it. It's great for face rubbing, but what is also nice is that you can get several uses out of it because you can flip the cardboard inserts. Charlie scratches and sits on it every day before we go outside

​Kelchi – Ragdoll Kitten of the Month​

My Ragdoll kitten, Kelchi, was born on October 7, 2012, and is now eight months old. Kelchi joined my pet family, a one-hundred-plus-pound Shiloh Shepherd named Colter and my mixed tabby cat, Moshie, right after Christmas. Since I love Native American history and collect artifacts and artwork from those cultures, I decided to give my kitten a Native American name.
