I hope you and your kitty are doing well!

Last Tuesday was pretty scary for Charlie and me. We were hanging out in the backyard when a massive limb suddenly snapped off our big tree. Unfortunately, it broke right where a honeybee nest was hidden, and the bees instantly swarmed and came after me.

Panic set in as I ran frantically around the yard, terrified that Charlie had been crushed under the branch. Thankfully, he had the good sense to sprint far away from the danger! But when he finally made his way back to me, the swarm turned their attention to him. Thank goodness for his long coat, which protected him from stings. Still under attack myself, I grabbed him by the scruff and hurried him safely indoors.

I rushed to my driveway in the front of my home to escape the swarm, swatting myself all over to get them off. I ended up taking over 20 stings, including on my eyelid, under my eye, and across my scalp. Once the bees on me were finally gone, I went back inside to check on Charlie and used tweezers to pull out all the stingers. I gave Charlie some Apis 30c just in case, and I took repeated doses of both Apis mellifica 30C and Ledum palustre 30C (homeopathic remedies for stings and bites). Homeopathy is sold in Sprouts, Natural Grocers and online.

We are a bit shaken up, but we’re fine. I also found a local beekeeper to relocate the bees. Ultimately, the biggest lesson here comes from Charlie: if you hear a branch cracking, run—don't stand there trying to watch it! We are incredibly fortunate.
