Recently, I had someone contact me on Instagram after seeing one of my older videos, in which I fed Charlie and Trigg raw. I am on a Facebook Group for Feline Hyperesthesisia - what Charlie is in remission from - and am always very surprised by the number of people who do not know or understand that long-term pharmaceutical use in their cat (or in them) will cause issues with other organs and/or imbalances. Bodies work synergistically, so anything you take can — and will — affect other parts. For example, many cats in that group end up with liver and kidney issues, leaving their owners surprised because they were not aware of the long-term effects of the pharmaceuticals, and I guess the vets aren't either, or the vets aren't telling them. Same goes for us - when I had my thryoid disease for 8 years, I was on the same meds a hyperthyroid cat is put on: methimazole. My doctors always checked my liver and kidney levels when they checked my thyroid levels to make sure my liver and kidneys were handling the methimazole.

Understanding and getting to the root cause rather than suppressing the problem with pharmaceuticals has been the most rewarding experience for me in the last several years, and most recently, I have been able to help a family member improve their health by addressing the root cause. All because of my cats. Our cats are incredible teachers on many levels, if we pay attention.

Please don't take that as I am opposed to pharmaceuticals. I love them for acute problems and serious emergencies, but they're overused when they aren't necessary or when they are, but can be used for way too long, like they were for my thyroid.

My experience with Charlie's kidney disease has been so entirely different and rewarding compared to the five kidney cats before him. I feel so much more confident, capable, and hopeful. It is a really nice feeling.
