Trigg’s parting lesson and a huge Floppycats milestone

Hi Reader,

I hope you and your kitties are doing well as always.

A Huge Milestone: 100,000 Subscribers! 🥈

Floppycats achieved an incredible milestone a few weeks ago - 100,000 subscribers on YouTube. This has been a goal of mine for sooo many years, and I cannot believe it finally happened. I took photos of Charlie with our YouTube silver plaque. Thank you to you all for your continued support in helping make this happen.

A Personal Health Update

I am writing this newsletter the night before it is sent out - about 6 hours before. I am a little late this time (I usually draft it on Monday) because I have had excruciatingly painful stabbing back pain for almost a week.

I have done almost everything I know to do, and finally received relief today after seeing a chiropractor yesterday and getting acupuncture today. More chiro tomorrow, I cannot wait. But the real relief came today after talking to the homeopath in the UK.

We were "Zooming" about Charlie, whom the homeopath is working on constitutionally. I requested a delay to the meeting time, so I could see an acupuncturist to help alleviate the knife-like pain in my back. He obliged, and when I got home and got on the Zoom with him, he noticed I was still wincing in pain.

He asked me where the pain was - I told him, and he said, "Have you had a bit of emotional trauma recently?" I had not - but I had just done a parasite cleanse - and he said, "Ah ha, trauma to the gut - try Nux Vomica every 30 minutes for six doses."

After the 4th dose, as I was stretching my neck, it popped, releasing something, and hours later, I am almost back to normal... but given my fear of this horrid condition returning, I am still going to the chiropractor tomorrow and back to the acupuncturist on Thursday to solidify my pain-free state!

The Power of Homeopathy

I believe I have confessed that I think Trigg's parting lesson to me was to learn more about homeopathy - and I did today with my own body. Homeopathy never ceases to amaze me completely. Unfortunately, it is not commonly practiced.

Holistic and Homeopathic medicine remind me how EVERYTHING we do or experience can affect us physically. And that's what I love about holistic and homeopathic medicine - it looks at the WHOLE patient.

Kidney Disease & The Holistic Approach

I interviewed Julie Anne Lee of Adored Beast Apothecary several weeks ago about kidney disease in cats, and you can find the interview below. Julie has taught me so very much over the years - common sense stuff that western medicine misses. Consequently, my kidney cat journey with Charlie has been very different from any other cat's and, really, quite nice!

I remember a Zoom I saw with Julie years ago, where she said it was far easier to euthanize a holistically treated cat than one on medication. She said it was because you know for sure, and I understood that entirely after just coming off the caregiving for Caymus and Murphy. With Caymus, I would think he was ready, but then he would bounce back. I honestly hated the emotional roller coaster and wished it were more clean-cut.

As Julie explains below, when you are giving supportive supplements that help the body and alleviate symptoms, you have a clearer picture than when you are giving pharmaceuticals that only suppress symptoms. That's what I've learned from this experience with Charlie. I feel like every supplement I give him is helping him, whereas with Caymus, I hoped that the pharmaceutical would buy me more time and help him eat one more day.

Please know I am not 100% opposed to pharmaceuticals - I do see their place, I think we overuse them out of simplicity and because that's what's pushed. If there is an opportunity to restore health or stabilize health, I believe the way to best achieve that is through the right homeopathic and holistic supplements.

If you have the time, I would love for you to take a look, comment, and share our Shorts from last week:

Peace, love, and purrs,

Jenny

Kidney Disease in Cats: A Holistic Deep Dive

This deep dive into feline kidney disease features Julie Anne Lee from Adored Beast Apothecary, who shares a holistic "whole-body" approach to managing one of the most common challenges for aging cats and why a diagnosis of kidney disease doesn’t have to be a "death sentence." She emphasizes proactive care, species-appropriate nutrition, and the powerful role of homeopathy in maintaining a high quality of life for your feline friends.

Key Takeaways for Cat Owners:

  • Spotting the Subtle Signs: Because cats are stoic, early symptoms are often behavioral. Look for shifts in personality, sleeping in new spots, or overgrooming the lower back [03:14]. Classic signs like increased thirst and larger "clumps" in the litter box usually appear once the disease is more advanced [06:51].
  • The Problem with Dry Food: Cats are biologically designed to get moisture from their prey, not from a water bowl. Julie explains that dry food can lead to chronic dehydration, which puts a massive strain on the kidneys [13:51]. Switching to human-grade wet or raw food can significantly help mimic natural hydration [16:07].
  • The "Low Protein" Myth: While many vets recommend low-protein diets, Julie warns that if cats don’t get enough clean protein, they may begin to "ingest" their own muscle mass to survive [27:16]. Clean, moisture-rich protein (like raw meat) is often easier for a cat’s body to process than the processed proteins found in kibble [25:45].
  • Stress-Free Management at Home: Learning to give Subcutaneous (SubQ) fluids at home is a game-changer [17:52]. Julie recommends warming the fluid bag to body temperature and using a butterfly catheter, which allows the cat to move around comfortably and reduces the "poke" of larger needles [22:09].
  • Homeopathic Support: Julie discusses specific remedies like Phosphorus (for nausea and renal support) and Arnica (to help with the physical and emotional trauma of regular treatments) [50:34]. These remedies don't just suppress symptoms; they help the body communicate and heal [34:01].
  • The Gut-Kidney Connection: Support the "conductor" of the body—the gut. Probiotics like Felix's Flora and Gut Soothe can help manage oxidative stress and improve the body's overall filtration system [37:31].

Final Thought: "It's about intervening in the 'disease wheel' to slow the train down," says Julie [39:52]. With the right holistic tools, many cats continue to live happy, active lives for years after a diagnosis.

SiiPet LitterLens Product Review

Could a Camera in the Litter Box Save Your Cat’s Life? 🐾

Ever wondered what’s really going on in your cat’s bathroom? We recently tested the SiiPet LitterLens, an AI-powered smart camera that turns your cat's litter box into a proactive health diagnostic system.

Whether you have a senior kitty, a cat prone to UTIs, or a multi-cat household where it’s a guessing game of “who did what,” this little owl-shaped device is awesome.

Here’s why we’re impressed:

  • AI Cat Identification: It uses "Cat Sense" technology to recognize individual cats (perfect for Ash and Addie!).
  • Early Health Alerts: It can detect changes in visit frequency, stool consistency, and even the presence of blood—flagging potential issues before they become emergencies.
  • Privacy First: It only records when a cat is in the box, preserving your home’s privacy.
  • Universal Fit: It works with open, enclosed, and automatic litter boxes alike.

Don’t wait for your cat to act "off" to know something is wrong. Check out our full review to see how the AI performed, how easy it was to set up, and how it could give you ultimate peace of mind.

January 2026 Giveaway: Litter Zero Cat Litter Waste Disposal System

The Litter Zero cat litter waste disposal system is a premium unit from the Korean brand Petsnology. It is explicitly designed to sit in your litter box area, acting as a high-tech "vault" for waste.

You still perform your daily scooping as usual, but instead of walking a grocery bag to the outdoor bin or smelling the odors from a standard trash can, you drop the waste into the Litter Zero. In South Korea, where high-density apartment living is the norm, odor control is a science. This system was engineered to ensure that, even in small spaces, you would never know a cat had ever lived there.

Necoichi Cat Scratcher Bowl

This weekend’s deep clean included tackling Charlie and Trigg’s toy bin! 🧶 After a flea scare in late fall, the toys were covered in the Epsom salt and baking soda I’d used around the house. I decided to give the catnip toys a quick rinse in the washing machine—no soap, just water—and ended up making a giant batch of "catnip tea!" ☕️🐾

The dryer vent smelled like catnip steam, and Charlie was obsessed! Since they were still a bit damp, I laid them out to finish air-drying and realized just how many favorites we have. It’s pretty clear what our top picks are (look at that photo!), but @hauspanther’s Lynxes and the classic @yeowwwcatnip Banana are always winners. Charlie even celebrated the clean-out by tossing a Lynx into the dining room!

It’s definitely time to declutter and donate what we don’t use. What’s currently hiding in your cat’s toy bin?

Hi Reader, Merry Christmas Eve to those of you who celebrate Christmas! In 1989, my siblings and I were gifted Rags as a Christmas present, along with his half-brother, Cosby. Cosby died at 10 months old of FIP, but Rags lived for 19.5 years and was the reason I started Floppycats back in 2008. Rags came to me in a dream the other night, which was weird to experience after so many years - he has been gone for 17 years in March. Christmas was my favorite as a child, and Rags had a large part...
